How to fall in love with the desert. 4 amazing deserts just waiting for you

Image
For most people, the word desert makes you conjure up yellow. You will likely have an image of huge expanses of yellow, dry sand. A dead mass of nothingness just being eaten away by sand.  If you think of life it will probably be very limited or no green vegetation, no flowers, and little too limited animals, a scorpion here and there, maybe a snake, but nothing more. These animals will only be sneaking out in the middle of the night when the temperature is cooled down to avoid the blistering daytime heat. The choices of desert you will see below, however, will give you so much more than just sand and death. 4. Kalahari Desert, South Africa. When you visit South Africa there are millions of things to see and explore. One of my favorite things to do and not the first thing people think of when mentioning South Africa is visiting the Kalahari Desert. Many do not even know what it is or where it is located, but wow, is it worth a trip. The Kalahari Desert is 360,000 square...

6 things I learned when I traveled through the desert countries

Image
It can be hard traveling through the Middle East. I can not say that I have much experience but I have been to 6 different countries and collected a lot of experiences. I have made a 6 step guide to you if you are planning a trip, or if you have traveled there in the past and want a quick laugh and trip down memory lane.  Enjoy! 1.         Israel : If you do not look enough like you can’t be sisters! If there isn’t enough of a family resemblance the logical result will be to assume that you must be Iranian spies and not just sisters as you claim. That will result in having your person and belongings searched at every checkpoint and thorough interrogation about your family lines and whereabouts. 2.        Palestine : We all make due with what we got. When visiting Bethlehem in Palestine we met a man who lived in front of the wall that separates Israel from Palestine. Infront of his house, he had painted...

The Dead Sea, Israel

Image
Sweat is rolling down my skin. It is so hot. The desert seems even more unmerciful than I thought possible. How can it be so scorching hot? I am sweating from places I didn't even know could sweat. How does anything survive here? I just want to cool off in the water, but the water isn't cold. It is boiling. I can see the bubbles from the salty water boiling just of the shore of the dead sea. What I wouldn't give for a chance to jump in a cold lake or pool. But there is nothing cold here. Just boiling water and sweaty bodies. Why would anyone go here?.  The Dead Sea is probably one of the most famous lakes in the world. It is also the lowest point on earth, surrounded by the epic and gorgeous landscape of the Negev Desert. In Hebrew, the Dead Sea is called Yam Ha-Melakh, and is known worldwide for its health and healing powers.  Driving towards the Dead Sea we kept seeing these small signs on the side of the road telling us exactly how low we were, and e...

Visit the ancient Masada and explore a piece of history, Israel

Image
Masada a  time capsule  hidden in the desert.  Once upon a time Exodus was put upon the people, and there were to wander the desert for 40 years as a punishment. Wandering into the desert and the hottest place in Israel myself, I can’t see nothing but beauty as far as the eye can see. The roughness and scorching heat kind of blows you away in a very unique way. It is an experience that cannot be explained but needs to be experienced for yourself. The Judaea desert is memorable for its spectacular landscape and scenic gorges. Here you can’t be anything but marvel at nature's ability to create and shape the landscape. But it is hot, hot as in a melting pot. I was sweating from places I didn’t even know I could sweat from, and a lot of it. And there in the middle of it all, on an isolated clifftop in the heart of the desert, overlooking the Dead Sea and the untamed landscape of the Judaea Desert, you find the ancient mountain fortress of Masada, or what is ...
