Tanzania, Serengeti, the King of National Parks - Here will be Lions
Vast landscape as far as the eye can see. Beautiful unspoiled nature and great, majestic and terrifying animals, this is just some of the amazing things Tanzania has to offer. The animals are marvelous and like watching Lion King in real life. You can get up-close and see wildebeests, giraffe, elephants or even lions in their native habitat. But the Savanna has so much more to offer... Explore the vast never-ending beautiful piece of eternity.
Over the next three days, I will give you three examples of where to safari in Tanzania all you have to do is book your trip and get on your way.
Serengeti, Tanzania
Adventure into the king of Africa’s national parks: the Serengeti National Park. The word “Serengeti” is derived from the Maasai language, meaning “endless plain”.Be amazed by its enormous size. As said properly in the Lion King: “Look, Simba. Everything the light touches is our kingdom.Young Simba: Whoa…!”
Its kingdom is far greater than what we can see with our human eye. You can drive for weeks and not even see it all. But you can see enough to fall utterly in love with Africa.
Serengeti is unequaled for its beauty and vast landscape. Depending on the season you will be amazed by the never-ending green or yellow grass that just continues into eternity.
Life prospers here. You see it everywhere you look from the smallest birds to the kings of the Serengeti, the Lions. Every animal can call this giant park home. When you venture around the park you will see life in every shape and form. Some of the animals you will love, some of them you will fear, all of them will amaze you.
The Animals
Serengeti is home to the Great Wildebeest Migration. Millions of Wildebeests travel through the park every year from Kenya to Tanzania. They are a magnificent sight, should you be lucky enough to visit the park in the right season. Fear not, however, the huge herds of plains animals such as wildebeest, zebra, and antelope dominate the park and are easy to spot and hear when driving around the savanna. You will see heaps of them in bigger or smaller packs.
If you are lucky you will meet their predators as well. Such as lion, leopard, cheetah, and hyenas. These can be found among the many kopjes scattered across the plain or hidden from the heat under shades of green.
This is one of your chances to see the lion cubs playing in the grass or a Pumba being chased down by jackals and observe the circle of life for yourself.
We loved the lions baby cubs and almost fainted with excitement when our guide Kessy showed us baby cheetahs’. They were literary the most adorable sight we ever saw.
We spent the nights in Serengeti in tents, and the evening by the fire watching hyaenas roaming around the camp and buffalos quietly sneaking closer and closer to our campfire. When we wanted to leave the fire to go to our tent we were escorted by a Masai-bodyguard with weapons… just in case, of course. And during the night we were woken up multiple times by zebras calling, and lots of other unidentified animals.
Spending a few days here is a must. The landscape of the Serengeti varies from open grass plains in the south to savanna with scattered acacia trees in the center, to hilly, wooded grassland in the north. And the wildlife is as different as the landscape. The animals are most active around dawn and dusk so even after a long day of animal spotting, don't leave early. Catch the amazing African sunset and explore how the predators come out at dusk to look around for their next supper. We didn't have a chance to see a hunt take place and our guide told us that some people love to see a chase and explore the circle of life, and some people cry when they see a baby animal taken down by a pride of lions. It is however, an experience for life.
No matter where you come from or where you are going next you will leave Serengeti will so many memories and the photos to help you remember them.
I have a weakness for lions so I have collected a few favorite photos to show from Serengeti taken by myself or our guide who works in Serengeti Kessy.
