Canberra, ACT. The Bush Capital of the World DownUnder

Canberra is Australia’s capital, and a city you should visit if you are interested in the history of Australia. It is located in the ACT, Australian Capital Territory, roughly 3,5 hours south of Sydney, inland from the country's southeast coast.

It is called the Bush Capital because of its location surrounded by forest, farmland and nature reserves. While you are here you will see kangaroos and many of them. They are roaming the city and parks. We had to sit in our car for a good 15 minutes one night because six kangaroos had decided to occupy a roundabout. They were busy having their dinner and didn’t seem to mind that we had to wait for ours. They seemed oblivious or at least indifferent to our presence so we patiently had to wait until they saw it fit to vacate the road.

Must-sees in Canberra
Canberra is the place to explore Parliament House and see democracy in action. You can take a free guided tour and end up at the top of the modern building for high tea and scones. Learn a bit of history.
Do you know why it is an Emu and a Kangaroo that represents Australia?
They are native to Australia, yes but the reason, I was taught is because they are the two only animals incapable of moving backward. The knees are located at an angle that makes moving backward impossible. They have been chosen because Australia will always only move forwards.
Strange and funny fact.

Some of Australia's most prestigious universities are also located in Canberra which makes the population of the city quite educated, young and political. Not the worst place to go looking for young and equally minded friends if you should move to Australia.

If you have a love for food, Canberra is making a name for itself in the gastronomic world and trying to become a prestigious place to live and stay. There are many restaurants that serve amazing food and they are fusion, old fashion, and good quality. So pick your flavor and go to your restaurant.

Cultural must-sees
If you love culture you will love to visit Canberra. It has many renowned galleries and museums. They tell the tales of the development and history of Australia. As Australia's capital city, Canberra houses many of the nation's most important art and pieces of history. As well as pristine Aboriginal Art you will get a chance to meet the Bushranger Ned Kelly and hear why he was a hero and a real Australian Robin Hood.

The city is located in gorgeous surroundings and build around Lake Burley Griffin frequented by most Canberrans for leisure activities. There are several ways you can experience Lake Burley. The lake is a scene for both boats, paddle boating, and kayaks. While strolling around the shoreside you will encounter many of the famous buildings such as the Parliament House, the National Arboretum, and the National Gallery, known for its indigenous art collections. In the mood for exercise? Join a lot of Canberrans and go on a bicycle around the 35 kilometers of shoreline. It is a flat and easy pathway.

Surrounding area.

While leaving or entering the city from either Sydney or Melbourne you will notice lots of bushland and untouched nature. A few stops can be made if you have a bit of time or decides to stay a while in Canberra.

Uriarra Crossing is located just outside the city with many options of enjoying nature at its best. Another stop is the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve, a gorgeous piece of nature, with inhabits a lot of kangaroos and cockatoos as well as emus. I fell completely in love with Australias wildlife. I loved the kangaroos and every time I saw one I was as excited as the first one. I think i have a million photos of closeups to kangaroos, kangaroos jumping, grassing, hanging out... Every thing a kangaroo does excites me. As a foreinger, I do not understand why Australians are not fascinated by these amazing creatures, and further more I do not understand why they kill them and try to get rid of them. Kangaroos have been in Australia for millions of years, it is their land.
Millions of kangaroos are killed every year in Australia. They are sold as meat, dog food or just run down on the road in accidents or shot because they eat the same grass as the sheep or cattle the farmers have. And we all know that if humans can make money they will do what ever it takes to make more.

If you feel like me please check out this trailer for the new movie Kangaroo that shows the way these amazing creatures are treated.
