Why Copenhagen is the best city in the world on a sunny summer day

Have you ever visited Copenhagen in the summer? I will tell you this... there is no place like Copenhagen on a sunny summer day.
You can always recognize ice the Nordic people when you go traveling. With every little glimpse of sun, they start smiling and sit in it with their face turned towards the sun. Now imagine Copenhagen, approximately one million Nordic people all feeling the urge to do this when a sunray stroke them. It creates this quite unique vibe of hygge mixed with the smell of summer.
Now, I know you know all the famous places to go in Copenhagen, like Nyhavn and Christania. but do you know the secret places?

So where can you go and find this very specific summer-hygge vibe and danish mellow-ness? I’ve picked two of my favorite out of the ordinary places I think every tourist to Copenhagen should visit on their stop in this beautiful city.

1. Dronning Louises bridge.
On the border from inner Copenhagen to Nørrebro, you will find the famous bridge called Dronning Louise's bro. Queen Louise Bridge is a bridge over the lakes in Copenhagen. The bridge was built in 1885-1887 and was designed by architect Vilhelm Dahlerup, connecting Indre By with Nørrebro. It has its name after Queen Louise, who was married to King Christian the 9. Here you will find a few hundred people at all times during the summer. It is the favorite hang-out place for hipsters and the rest of us. What are you doing there you will ask. Just hanging out. They will sit in the sun, either on the rails of the bridge or on the footpath on the ground and just enjoy the sun, feel the rays on their faces, chill, chat with friends or strangers, enjoy a beer or stare at passing traffic.
Very close by you can buy your beverage of choice and you can just bicycle here, drag your bike of the cycle lane and sit here for hours just chilling.
There are plenty or grass along the lakes on both sides of Dronning Louises bridge but somehow this is the place to hang out.

2. Assistens Kirkegård
When you feel like you’ve been on the bridge and what a come comfortable place to cushion your bum chill out in one of my favorite places. This is where people strip down to their bikinis, listen to music and enjoy their occasional beer. I did my daily 5 km run and social walks. It is beautiful all year round but summer does make it blossom and become something quite extraordinary. It is Assistens Kirkegård located in the very heart of Nørrebro. Assistens Kirkegård is a cemetery at Nørrebro in Copenhagen. It was created in 1760 because the City was running out of space to bury people. It is especially known because a number of well-known people are buried here.
Sound morbid to you to suntan amongst the graves or listen to the latest tunes while disturbing the dead? Personally, I think the people resting in peace wouldn’t mind too much. I’ve spent a lot of time here and I’ve never thought people were disrespectful towards the dead. If someone is being sent to their final resting place people will give the space and move away. Somehow, to me, there is something very comforting in having so much life and joy restored ng in the same place as the dead. Writing about it makes me see the morbid sides, but as I did my 5 km run for a year 3 times a week here I never thought of myself as being disrespectful or the people doing similar activities or enjoying them self as anything but positive. It is worth mentioning that several graveyards around the city are being used as bicycle training spots and runs and I’ve never heard anyone complain.

Christians Havn

I could go on for days about the beautiful places of Copenhagen. The tourist flyers will sell Copenhagen and the normal tourist attractions just fine. Should you find yourself there in the summer Blågårds Square is worth a stop just for its quirky vibes and kind people. Another place in Nørrebro where you can always find people enjoying them self, and things going on is Nørrebro Pladsen.

Nørrebro Plads

Other areas in Copenhagen that shouldn't be missed is, of course, Frederiksberg have in which I’ve taken many walks during my 2.5 years in Copenhagen. Here you can find a big and peaceful and quiet garden where you can enjoy many walks and much time. Get a glimpse of the Elephants from the zoo and all the natural animals living here.

Frederiksberg Park

Vesterbro is another area you simply must visit. Take a stroll down the narrow and unique streets of Vesterbro. There are many more places to go but these you should not miss.
Enjoy.
